Identity Theft By the Numbers; "The Victims"

Victims of identity theft are ever growing. This crime is eating away at our economy's fabric. Individuals suffer immense loss. In 2008, there were 10 million individuals effected by identity theft. One in ten people has been victimized.

Furthermore, identity theft is not a "Rich Man's" problem. Identity theft can occur between neighbors, know as a close stranger. It can occur with a nosy garbage snooper, also known as a close stranger. Maybe even a friend of the family.

It appears that identity theft is a hot topic as far as medical fraud or fraud by identity theft. With shrinking economies, this particular area is one to keep an extra sharp eye on.  Once someone has your identity, it is "Theirs" to do as they choose.  Maybe if one is lucky, your identity theft will be caught!!

The most important thing is prevention. Making conscionable attempts to protect our identity is the BEST cure. Certainly we can't protect ALL aspects of our identity but, we must make efforts not to become the next statistic.
